You can start testing six days before your missed period. hCG roughly doubles every couple of days in early pregnancy, so the closer you get to your missed period, the more likely the test is to pick it up. For the best chance of an accurate early result, use first-morning urine, when hCG is most concentrated. If you get a negative result early but your period doesn't arrive, test again in a couple of days.
